Frequently Asked Questions
Will I definitely see the northern lights?
While we can’t guarantee the aurora every night, Fairbanks is one of the best places on Earth to see it.
With clear skies and a little patience, most guests experience the lights during their visit. Even on quieter
nights, our guided stargazing sessions and telescopes bring the sky to life in unforgettable ways.
What should I wear?
Dress in warm layers! Winter nights in Alaska can drop below zero. We recommend insulated boots, gloves, and a good parka.
We provide heated areas, a crackling fire, and cozy indoor spaces to keep you comfortable all night long.
What’s included with my tour?
Your evening includes guided aurora and stargazing sessions, telescope viewing, storytelling, and use of our warm indoor lounge.
Guests can enjoy refreshments, light snacks, games, and a pool table between aurora displays. We also offer optional camera
rentals and tracking mounts for photography.
How long is the tour?
Most tours last around 3–4 hours, depending on aurora activity and sky conditions. You’re welcome to stay a little longer
around the fire or inside the lounge when possible.
Can I take photos of the aurora?
Absolutely! You can bring your own camera or rent one of ours. We’re happy to help with settings and provide tripods
or tracking mounts to help you capture the best shots.
Is this experience family-friendly?
Yes, the experience is family-friendly and children are welcome. However, tours take place late at night, often well past
normal bedtime. For the best experience — and a full night’s rest — it’s usually best that younger children stay home for a good night’s sleep.
Where do we meet?
Your tour begins at our viewing site about 20 miles off Chena Hot Springs Road, away from city lights for the best visibility.
Directions and check-in details are provided after booking.
What if it’s cloudy?
We do not cancel for just clouds — Alaska weather changes quickly, and the aurora often appears even through light cloud cover.
If conditions aren’t ideal, we still offer engaging telescope sessions, star stories, and time by the fire with refreshments.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Cancellations within 72 hours of your scheduled tour are non-refundable.
If Champion Skyes Adventures and Tours cancels due to extreme weather, road closures, or safety concerns,
you’ll receive a full refund or the option to reschedule. We do not cancel solely for cloudy skies,
as the aurora may still be visible.
Will we be attacked by the Abominable Snowman?
No. The Abominable Snowman originates in the Himalayan range. Their cousins, the Sasquatch, are shy and peaceful.
